Last year’s Strictly Come Dancing was a huge success despite taking place during a global pandemic and a third UK wide lockdown. There were certain rules and regulations that were in place to keep the BBC show as safe as possible including a ban on celebrities over the age of 60. However, it appears Strictly will lift that ban when finalising this year’s line-up.

BBC bosses were forced to rule out over-60s to limit the likelihood of a Covid-19 outbreak seriously impacting the health of contestants.

However, the show plans to welcome back older celebrities and encourage everyone involved in the show to get the Covid vaccine.

A source said: “Last year’s ban was a shame to some older hopefuls desperate to take part.

“Now the seniors are being welcomed back with open arms, which is great news for viewers who like watching showbiz veterans have a go.

The uncertainty of lockdown restrictions also meant the iconic trip could have been cancelled at the last minute.

Therefore, bosses took the decision to rule out a visit to the Blackpool Tower Ballroom at the start of the series.

But, as the roadmap out of lockdown continues to push forward alongside a successful vaccination programme, Blackpool week could return this year.

A source explained: “Strictly and the BBC set the gold standard last year in terms of putting a show on during a pandemic.
