Gordon Ramsay’s BBC quiz show Bank Balance ‘faces AXE’ after just two weeks on air | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

In February 2020, chef Gordon Ramsay took on the role as a quiz show host for the very first time in BBC One’s Bank Balance. Airing three nights a week, Wednesday to Friday at 9pm, the show was heavily backed by the BBC to draw in the viewers in its primetime slot. However, insiders have now reportedly claimed it’s “highly unlikely” to return for another series given dwindling ratings.

The quiz show sees Gordon put up a £100,000 prize fund on offer as teams try and answer a series of questions in a series of rounds.

However, it’s not quite as plain and simple as an easygoing question and answer format as teams also have to wrestle with the Bank Balance table.

Each team is tasked with balancing bars on the table without it toppling over, made all the more difficult by wrong answers and its unstable positioning.

The format of the show has left fans well and truly divided, with several blasting it for being “confusing” and hard to follow.

The source also told the publication: “The BBC splashed the cash to make Bank Balance work, but it just isn’t popular.

“Its viewing figures are well below the average for its slot on BBC One.”

This has been reflected by a number of viewers on Twitter, with one venting: “What is going on on this #BankBalance show? It feels like a pile of ideas squashed together and just feels confusing and isn’t engaging me…

“Not helped by the contestants being a bit full-on; Gordon Ramsay not too bad as a host.”

A second weighed in: “People said The Wheel was confusing. I’m a gameshow connoisseur and this is baffling me that I’ve started focusing on the pretty colours instead #BankBalance.”

While a third fumed: “Can’t watch another 3 nights of #BankBalance omg it’s bloody dreadful. Pls @GordonRamsay stick to the cooking. #GordonRamsay #bbc.” (sic)

There have been some messages of support, however, with Gordon retweeting one fan who said: “Totally addicted to this game show… #BankBalance.”

Bank Balance continues on BBC One on Wednesday at 9pm.
