Fans of the show were backing the professional dancer to take the hot seat but they weren’t too far off the mark with her sister Motsi, 38, announced as the new judge earlier today.
Mosti already has some experience as a judge, appearing on the panel on the German edition of Let’s Dance after being on the show as a dancer.
The professional will be right at home alongside Strictly head judge Shirley Ballas, 58, and her colleagues Bruno Tonioli, 63, and Craig Revel Horwood, 54, but not everyone was pleased by the news.
Announcing the news in a statement issued by the BBC, Motsi said of her new role: “I am absolutely overjoyed to be joining the Strictly judging panel.
“I have so much respect and admiration for the other three judges and hope to add my own bit of sparkle to the show.”
“I can’t wait to get started!” she added, with Director of BBC Content Charlotte Moore stating: “Motsi is a brilliant addition to the show.
“She is a wonderful dancer in her own right and already has years of experience as a judge under her belt.
“We’re all looking forward to welcoming her to the Strictly family,” Charlotte added, with viewers expressing their own thoughts on the news on social media.
One fan wrote on Twitter: “Can she be seen as independent and unbiased when she’s Oti Mabuse’s sister? (Unless Oti is quitting the show?)”
Another added: “Haha. Keep it in the family. What happens when she criticicises her sister’s dance partner. Will there be fireworks.” [sic].
Whilst a third posted: “Hmmm, a sister of one of the pros on the judging panel, what could possibly go wrong?!?”
Not everyone was upheaved by the news and voiced delight and support with the BBC for appointing the sister of a professional dancer.
A fourth remarked: “You all can calm down with the ‘bias’ claims. these women are PROFESSIONALS and ADULTS.” [sic].
“Surprise choice! Watch out Oti! Should be fun!” a fifth commented with regards to today’s news.
