American fantasy novelist George R.R. Martin has received much criticism in recent years for the sheer length of time it’s taking for him to write the latest Game of Thrones novel in his series A Song of Ice and Fire.
At first, his partnership with the TV series allowed producers Dan Weiss and David Benioff to model their seasons based on the books already-released, and involved discussions with the author.
But when the author couldn’t keep up with the scheduling of the show, everything changed.
The HBO showrunners were forced to take some creative licence with the final two seasons – seven and eight – and left many fans with a sour taste in their mouth.
Not only did Daenerys Targaryen (played by Emilia Clarke) go “mad” like her father and with her dragon Drogon scorch the whole of King’s Landing, but Jon Snow (Kit Harington) didn’t end up the King of the Iron Throne and self-exiled himself to the Night’s Watch once more.
Therefore many dedicated book-readers are desperately hoping Martin will rectify some of the disappointment at the show’s ending with a different ending in the novels.
But unfortunately, the author is simply taking so long to release his last two books, worried fans are wondering if he will ever get to release them at all.
Martin’s 71st birthday is tomorrow, and the novelist will undoubtedly be celebrating.
But has his birthday horoscope – Martin is a Virgo – revealed exactly why fans have to wait so long for his next book to be released?
According to Darkstarastrology.com, the author’s star sign says some uncanny things that could explain everything.
One section reads: “Though often possessed of reserved dispositions, many are subject to wild episodes, for they know that their lives are finite.
“At times they are liberated by this sense of finity, while at others they rage against it.”
The “reserved disposition” could allude to Martin taking his time with his writing.
Perhaps the author is doing copious rewrites and changing various sections over and over to get things just right?
And the “wild episodes” comment could refer to a lack of planning or organisation for the star sign, perhaps suggesting the author can’t stick to a solid time-frame in his work.
Horoscopes have to be taken with a pinch of salt however, and there are plenty of book fans out there who won’t believe in astrology.
But for now at least, maybe it would help some to have an idea why George R.R. Martin’s latest masterpiece is so delayed?
Game of Thrones seasons 1-8 are available to stream now.
The Winds of Winter by George R.R. Martin still doesn’t have a release date.
