Fish and chips recipe: How to make batter for fish

Whether you love cod, hake, or haddock, there’s nothing better than a super-crispy batter. Looking for a quick and tasty treat meal? This fish and chips recipe takes 15 minutes to prepare, and 40 minutes to cook. Express.co.uk talks you through BBC Good Food’s ‘golden beer-battered fish with chips’ recipe.

Step six

Roast for 30 mins, turning occasionally until the chips are golden and crisp.

Step seven

To cook the fish, heat the litre of oil in a deep saucepan until a drop of batter sizzles and crisps up straight away.

Step eight

Pat the fish dry with kitchen paper, then toss it in the reserved turmeric flour mix. Shake off any excess, then dip into the batter.

Step nine

Carefully lower each fillet into the hot oil and fry for 6-8 mins – depending on the thickness of the fish – until golden and crisp.

Step 10

Using a large slotted spoon, lift out the fish, drain on kitchen paper, then sprinkle with salt.

Step 11

Serve with the hot chips and tomato sauce.
