Tonight’s double bill of Emmerdale saw Amy (played by Natalie Ann Jamieson) completely drop the ball while looking after her nine-year-old son Kyle.
The Geordie character became distracted when her one-time date Nate (Jurell Carter) hounded her across the village, determined to apologise for the what happened in the Woolpack pub yesterday.
Amy had been disgusted to learn the farmer had decided to take her out for a drink only days after sleeping with Tracy Metcalfe (Amy Walsh), and proceeded to join her female comrades in chucking her drink all over him.
But Nate insisted his night with Tracy meant “nothing” and he really wanted to get to know Amy on the ITV soap.
Her resolve wavering, Amy let Kyle play on the roundabout while she listened to what Nate had to say, but as the seconds ticked by, she turned around only to realise Kyle had gone missing.
Amy and Nate frantically searched the area before the former realised she needed to get Moira (Natalie J. Robb) involved – the Scottish farmer had entrusted Kyle’s care to Amy for the morning.
Kyle snuck into the garage and climbed into a truck with a broken exhaust pipe, unaware Dan Spencer (Liam Fox) was locking up, but luckily Nate got to the little boy before the fumes could do too much damage.
The group decided to take Kyle to hospital and hope for the best but when Moira brought up telling Cain Amy began to panic, initially hopeful she was going to keep her secret.
“Please Moira I’ve only just got Kyle back in my life,” she begged.
“You know as well as I do Cain will stop me from seeing him.”
Moira was unsure at first, but when the group were sat in the kitchen at Butlers’ farm, she suddenly chose her side.
“What if he finds out from someone else?” the mother-of-four told Amy and Nate, who were still trying to persuade her to keep what happened to Kyle a secret.
Trying to impress his failed date, Nate continued: “Please Moira – think about Amy, and little Kyle.”
Cain (Jeff Hordley) then walked through the door surprised to see his son home from school early.
Moira fumbled an excuse as to why Amy was there, and the character was thrilled, but has she made her own bed for a difficult future?
If Cain later discovers the group collectively lied to him and put his son’s welfare at risk, he the village hard man could lose it completely.
“Thank you,” Amy smiled at Moira once Cain had left the room. “You don’t know what this means to me.”
“Well let’s just hope he doesn’t find out from anyone else,” Moira sighed. “Or believe me, we will all live to regret it.”
Also during tonight’s episodes, Victoria Sugden (Isabel Hodgins) finally came to an understanding with her brother Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) after his rash actions against rapist Lee Posner yesterday.
Emmerdale continues tomorrow at 7pm on ITV.
