Coronation Street spoilers David Platt to lose Lily Platt in custody battle? | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

David (played by Jack P Shepherd) has had yet another turbulent year on Coronation Street, what with the fallout of his money-making scam with brother Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) finally resolved itself in November. However, Christmas saw his world turned upside down once more when his wife, Shona Ramsey (Julia Goulding) was shot and ended up losing her memory of him as a result of complications in surgery to save her life. After she turned her back on him before moving away to a rehabilitation centre, the father-of-two has hit the self-destruct button and is putting himself in serious danger. As his wayward antics continue in upcoming scenes on ITV soap, will his children be the ones in the firing line?

Viewers have watched in recent months as David has turned to alcohol as well as picking fights with thugs to distract him from his marital problems.

Although he believes he has already lost his wife, he now seems to be pushing away the rest of his family as he struggles with the concept of not having Shona in his life.

Such actions have included failing to turn up to an awards ceremony where step-son Max Turner (Harry McDermott) was giving a speech, as well as forgetting his mother Gail Platt’s (Helen Worth) birthday.

The father-of-two has also been lagging on his responsibilities to daughter Lily Platt (Brooke Malonie) who has had to be taken to school by various other family members.

However, as his conquest for self-destruction looks bleaker than ever, is he set to lose his child as things go horribly wrong?

Scenes airing next week will see him take his anger out on some local youths when he gets some news about wife Shona.

With his other half wanting to visit her killer son Clayton Hibbs (Callum Harrison), who murdered her husband’s late wife and Lily’s mother Kylie Platt (Paula Lane), in prison, the troubled character spirals out of control.

It seems his wayward ways are finally going to catch up with him, when the police arrive and break up the rustle.

Fans have already seen the father-of-two given a warning by Craig Tinker (Colson Smith) about his erratic behaviour and although he promises to change his ways, could it be too late?

Talking to press, including Express.co.uk, the soap boss said: “What we wanted to show really was sort of the complicated psychology that David’s got.

“He thinks he’s just sort of raising hell and causing trouble and there’s loads of stuff of him enjoying putting himself in harm’s way.

“Underneath it all, we thought there was a sort of self destructive nihilistic, which is a little bit of him that doesn’t care about his own safety anymore.

“And doesn’t care about what happens to him because he’s lost the, you know, the woman that he loves and the person about whom other than his kids he cares most about in all the world.”

Although Iain states David loves his children, his recent behaviour has suggested his hang ups about Shona are greater than wanting to care for them.

Reflecting on his actions as Lily is taken away from him, could the father-of-two ultimately decide not to fight in a custody battle and let her go?

As well as losing his wife, he could end up losing everything he holds dear, including the last two things which bring him closer to Kylie.

Or could the troubled character get a hold of himself and focus on his family’s well being as Shona tries to piece the missing links of her life back together?

Coronation Street continues Monday at 7:30pm on ITV.
