Asan N’Jie may have only joined the cast of Emmerdale last year but the actor has already had his contract terminated by the soap. Following a brief suspension by the ITV show earlier this week, executives have decided to sack N’Jie with “immediate effect”. Here’s why the star has left Emmerdale.
Why has Asan N’Jie been sacked from Emmerdale?
ITV confirmed in a statement it has sacked Asan N’Jie following an incident at the TV Choice Awards on Monday, September 9.
N’Jie was filmed in a heated conflict with star of Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks, Jamie Lomas.
The statement reads: “Emmerdale suspended Asan N’Jie yesterday pending further investigation into an incident at a central London hotel on Monday night.
“ITV executives have met with him this morning and as a consequence, Asan’s contract has been terminated with immediate effect.”
N’Jie also released the following statement regarding his conduct which led to his dismissal.
He said: “My behaviour at the TV Choice Awards was completely unacceptable and very much out of character.
“I sincerely apologise to everybody who has been affected especially Jamie Lomas, the whole Emmerdale team, our audience, ITV, my family, and the organisers of the TV Choice Awards.
“I am devastated, accept full responsibility for my actions and I am determined to learn from this.”
In a clip which emerged of the incident in question, N’jie can be seen acting aggressively.
After being restrained by fellow soap stars, Lomas approaches N’Jie.
There’s a brief altercation between the two before Lomas is led away.
An unknown voice at the end of the video – which you can watch above – says: “It’s only a TV Choice Award.”
